About Me

Caroline is the award-winning author of I Am Not Grumpy!, I Am Not Happy!, Messi’s Magic, The Memory Cake, and The Corgi and the Queen.

Born in the U.K. and of Maltese-Irish heritage, Caroline’s love of storytelling began at a young age. As a child, she sought refuge in books—libraries were both her sanctuary and her happy place, and these days, not much has changed!

A lifelong adventurer, Caroline has lived on three continents and explored more than 65 countries. She feels most at home in nature, whether swimming with whale sharks and giant manta rays, trekking through rainforests in search of sloths, coming face-to-face with a “mega pride” of lions on safari, or helping release more than 900 baby sea turtles while volunteering at a marine rescue facility.

Closer to home, Caroline volunteers as a youth soccer coach and an elementary school writing instructor, where she loves helping young storytellers discover their voices and build the confidence to share their ideas with the world.

Her books have won numerous accolades. I Am Not Happy! was selected as a Kids’ Indie Next Pick; Messi’s Magic is a Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selection, a CBC Kids’ Favorite, and received a School Library Journal starred review; The Memory Cake won a 2026 Christopher Award; and The Corgi and the Queen was a Crystal Kite Award finalist and named one of Vogue’s Best Gifts for Kids. She has several more titles on the way.

Caroline shares her Los Angeles home with her husband, three children, many overstuffed bookshelves, and a frequently raided British candy cupboard.

TEN QUESTIONS

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I always dreamed of being an author—or doing anything that involved animals. Now I get to write about both animals and people, and I spend my days sharing stories with kids. I think I have the best job on the planet!

P.S. Who said anything about growing up?

What’s your favorite animal?

How much time do you have? I love quokkas, platypuses, whales, turtles, corgis, bears, lions, hummingbirds, koalas, octopuses, monkeys, hedgehogs, pigs, cats, frogs… we might need a bigger webpage to fit them all in!

Do you have a favorite food?

I have a very sweet tooth so I’ll have to go with a dessert: pistachio or hazelnut-flavored gelato. The nuttier, the better.

Do you have kids?

I sure do! I have three wonderful children—two sons and one daughter—who keep life exciting (and busy. And noisy…)

Which season is your favorite?

Winter! Although, living in sunny Southern California, it’s not really winter. Still, twinkly holiday lights make me happy.

Where do you like to go on vacation?

As a family we have relatives in the U.K., Malta, and Australia, so we visit these amazing places as often as we can. We also love exploring new destinations, and my kids have definitely caught the travel bug!

Is there something you don’t like that everyone else does?

Ketchup! I’m the odd one out in my household but I’m proudly Team No Sauce.

What are your favorite sports?

We’re a big soccer family, and I’ve coached kids’ soccer, too (so much fun!) It’s called the Beautiful Game for a reason.

Which colors are you most drawn to?

This is a tough one because I love color! Give me pink, robin’s egg blue, and anything bright and cheerful. The bolder the print, the better.

What do you like to do in your free time?

If I’m not out in nature I can usually be found in a library or bookstore. Otherwise, I might be whipping up something sweet in the kitchen, or planning our family’s next travel or wildlife-spotting adventure.
